Welcome

On behalf of the NZSA and Organising Committee, it is my privilege to invite you to our NZSA conference.

This has been a momentous and challenging year. While many of our CME opportunities were cancelled or postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions, after these restrictions were lifted the NZSA Executive discussed the importance of offering New Zealand Anaesthetists an opportunity to reconnect with each other as well as gather some CME points.

To this end we have put together “Anaesthesia 2020: emerge, reflect and reconnect” – a lean, mean three-day event comprising of a day of workshops and a two-day meeting with diverse, thought-provoking content. We have purposely organised this conference to be held at the same venue and dates as what was originally planned for our Combined Scientific Congress with Australia. If you had planned to take leave for the CSC, then hopefully you are able to attend our conference.

We are fortunate that we have been able to coat tail on the tremendous work undertaken by the CSC Organising Committee and I would like to acknowledge their work and that of other colleagues who had to postpone similar events. We look forward to reaping the benefits of their efforts in the future.

Due to the ongoing risk of a return to some form of lockdown, we have taken a simpler, more streamlined approach. However, we are confident that you will have a memorable conference experience with topical, stimulating presentations and great opportunities to catch up with colleagues. A number of social events are planned, including a conference dinner on the Wellington waterfront.
